“You’re not the boss of me!”
Has your child ever said those words or something similar to you?
As parents, we don’t like hearing disrespect and defiance coming from a child. I was thinking… what is it like from God’s perspective when I want my way and not His? Am I saying “you’re not the boss of me?”
Do you sometimes feel like you’re two different people, sometimes submitted to God, and other times wanting your own way? I do. What do we do when that selfishness wells up inside?
I think a critical thing to do, is to be really honest about it with God. Admit to God I’m being selfish and want my own way. He’s familiar with this in “us humans” that He created. He knows our wayward thoughts and motivations, and He loves us anyway.
Secondly, it’s believing that God can and will help me with “myself” and that there is hope in dealing with this part of me.
Third is it’s asking for His strength through the power of the Holy Spirit to do battle with my will. Trying to fight it in my own strength is not only futile, it’s foolish.
“Jesus, help me through your power to become more like You and less like me.”
Growing through His grace and strength, Marv
