PRAISE 106.5 and I’m Sam. Do you remember Middle school? It’s not exactly the time where you want to be vulnerable in front of your other students. Our daughter Zoe, gave a speech on Down Syndrome. It’s something she was born with and makes learning a little hard, and she was so brave and gave her speech in front of the class about what it’s like to be a person with Down Syndrome.
Zoe:
They like to play and have fun just like you. They want friends and love, just like you do. They can do great things like you.
Sam:
They want friends like you. They want love like you. They can do great things just like you.
Zoe:
God has given me some superpowers. I am great at love. I am great [inaudible]. I am brave and strong. So are you. We all have special needs.
Sam:
We all have special needs.
Zoe:
We show what God looks like when we know each other and love each other.
Sam:
We show what God looks like when we take time to know each other and to love each other. At the end of it, she asks for questions and comments and a little girl raises her hand and says, I have a comment. And inside me, I’m just thinking, oh, please let it be a nice comment. Please let it be a nice comment. And she goes, “If you were born with the same number of chromosomes as everyone else, you wouldn’t be the same person. And I really like you.” Okay. Do they have Kleenex in this classroom?
