Gold Star Teacher 2022: Jarrett Hansen

In every chance he shows the love of Christ and the commitment God has to His people. Mr. Hansen is a light for the gospel in a dark place. He shows Jesus and reveals God’s glory in all he does.

Jarrett Hansen works hard to make sure every individual student is cared for, loved, and strives to be the best version of themselves. He encourages his students and gives them extra opportunities to showcase their potential and hard work. Mr. Hansen has been able to grow the PAHS band program despite initially losing numbers to COVID. He was recently selected to speak at the Northwest Music Educators Conference and at Central Washington University as a distinguished alum. He spoke on how to work WITH administration and what it’s really like in the trenches of teaching during the first 5 years. He was vulnerable and encouraging during both talks.

Mr. Hansen gives everything he has for his students. He eats lunch with them, gives lessons, and provides opportunities for students to perform in the community. Mr. Hansen strives to give every band (Concert, Jazz, Percussion, Winds, and Pep) any and every opportunity presented to them. When they found out they would miss a festival, he worked to find another they could attend. He encouraged his students to perform at Solo and Ensemble where several of his students made it to the State level to perform. He works countless hours to give his students what they deserve and more. He collaborates with fellow teachers on how to best serve each individual student. Mr. Hansen fights for his students’ rights. He serves on a district-level committee which talks about current curriculum and how it helps or hinder students. Mr. Hansen truly cares about each kid who walks through his doors.

Mr. Hansen serves the community at large as well. He attends football and basketball games with the band. He created an after school sports and discipleship program for young men seeking the Lord. He plays in the Port Angeles Symphony Orchestra. In every chance he shows the love of Christ and the commitment God has to His people. Mr. Hansen is a light for the gospel in a dark place. Mr. Hansen is one of the most caring and encouraging teachers I have the pleasure of knowing. He truly does his best to understand where every student is coming from and how to best reach them. He is hard working and dedicated to his craft.
