Brant and Sherri discuss the importance of developing social skills. He shares his personal journey of overcoming social awkwardness and suggests a tip for improving social interactions: finding something in common to talk about. Brant starts by introducing a topic. Sherri thinks it’s ridiculous. It goes downhill from there.

Brant:
Pro tip, it’s never too late to develop social skills.
Sherri:
That’s true.
Brant:
It’s taken me a while to get to where I am.
Sherri:
And where would you define where you are?
Brant:
Ahhh, I was really awkward.
Sherri:
That’s where you were. Where are you?
Brant:
So I’m going to do like a role play here.
Sherri:
Oh, expert. Apparently
Brant:
Sherri. Like we’re gathered at a work thing like luncheon, you know the deal and they have pickles up there.
Sherri:
Yes. We’re at a work thing.
Brant:
Baby carrot.
Sherri:
Yes, we’re at a work thing.
Brant:
Okay. So here’s the tip for today. Find something in common and talk about that.
Sherri:
I agree.
Brant:
It’s pretty simple, isn’t it?
Sherri:
Yes it is. Yes it is.
Brant:
Alright, so you come up.
Sherri:
Okay. Hi Brant. How have you been?
Brant:
I like your eyebrows.
Sherri:
Thank you. I just got ’em done. As a matter of fact.
Brant:
Good thing we’re not in ancient Egypt. It’s good thing that your cat didn’t die because if it did in ancient Egypt, you had to shave off your eyebrows. That’s one of the rules they had.
Sherri:
I don’t have a cat.
Brant:
Romans love unibrows. They actually drew ’em in.
Sherri:
How is this anything in common Brant?
Brant:
Elizabethan ladies didn’t want eyebrows at all, which is silly because they help us fend off dust.
Sherri:
Okay. Brant, how is this saying… What is the? It’s because we both have eyebrows? That’s the commonality?
Brant:
Yeah. That’s what you do.
Sherri:
Oh my goodness. That’s ridiculous.
Brant:
Yeah. Well, again, please, when you listen to this role play, know that you will run into toxic people in the workplace. It does happen.
