In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-5
This passage from John 1 deserves some deep thought because it says so much! What does it tell us about Jesus? It says…
- Jesus is The Word – God chose Jesus as his messenger/Messiah to tell us about Himself. Jesus is God and the revealer of God the Father.
- Jesus has always existed — He was in the beginning with God.
- Through Jesus all things were created.
- Jesus gives life — without Him we cannot live physically or spiritually.
- The life that Jesus gives is the light we live by.
- When Jesus came in human form, He brought the light of God into the darkness of the world.
- The light of Jesus is more powerful than the darkness — He conquered the darkness of sin and death on the cross and in His resurrection.
- There will come a day when Jesus returns and fills the world with light forever.
