We love watching how the community is coming together to help during all the flooding. Here are a few ways we found you can participate. If you aren’t able to give financially or participate in these ways, anyone and everyone can pray!
- The Salvation Army has also launched an Emergency Flood Relief Appeal. People can help by going to salvationarmy.ca/BCFlood or call 1.800.SAL.ARMY to make a safe and secure donation.
- United for BC Flood Response Fund has been established through the United Way to provide for both short- and long-term needs like like shelter, food assistance, trauma and mental health supports, and the rebuilding social infrastructure. Donations toward the fund can be made directly on their website.
- If you’d like to make donations of clothing, blankets, or other goods for flood victims please check directly with the community or evacuation centre in your area. Many are either at capacity for donations & volunteers, or are not set up to receive them. Instead, consider donating to a local community organization.
- MCC Clothing (31872 South Fraser Way) and MCC Thrift (33933 Gladys Avenue) in Abbotsford are accepting donations for evacuees.
- Archway Community Services is accepting food and financial donations. Find the list of most-needed items or make a donation here.
- The Canadian Red Cross has set up a donation page specifically for relief efforts related to this crisis.
- Many areas are now isolated geographically due to damage to the road system, making evacuation and relief even more difficult. If you live in one of these areas and are able to provide shelter to a displaced flood victim, please contact your local evacuation centre.
- The BC SPCA is accepting monetary donations to provide emergency supplies for evacuated animals. Anyone who needs emergency boarding for their animals should call 1.855.622.7722.
- GoFundMe has set up a centralized hub for verified flood-related fundraisers.
- GlobalMedic is preparing flood clean-up kits to help families as they return home. You can specify that your donation should be used for “BC Flood Relief.”
- Blood donations are needed in many parts of the Fraser Valley. Book an appointment to donate blood.
